SUDs are treatable, and evidence of clinically significant benefit exists for medications (in opioid, nicotine and alcohol use disorders), behavioral therapies (in all SUDs), and neuromodulation (in nicotine use disorder). When used as needed, nalmefene decreases alcohol consumption and heavy‐drinking days compared to placebo213. This medication might be useful in alcohol rehab patients interested in reducing alcohol consumption but reluctant to engage in abstinence212.
